Growing Instructions:
Sowing: Kale thrives in cold weather and sweetens with frost, it grows best as a fall crop in areas with a cool summer. Sow seeds in early spring; plant 3 seeds per cluster, 1/2″ deep and 16-18″ apart in rows 2-3′ apart. Thing cluster to the strongest seedling when they emerge. Kale appreciates very rich, moist soil that drains well, since they taste better when allowed to grow quickly. For a fall crop plant the seeds in the same way about 3 months before the first expected frost in your area. For companion planting, plant with cabbage or potatoes.
Germination: 7–14 days at 65–75°F (18–24°C).
Care: Keep weeds controlled and conserve moisture with mulch. Keep soil evenly moist but stop watering after the first frost. Plants can survive temperatures up to -10°F.
Harvest: 50–60 days. Pick outer leaves when 6–8 inches long; young leaves are tender for salads.
